  1. Carole says:

Why do we need to go back to Who We Really Are? The question should be “Why do we need this earthly life?” In a dimension of infinity and eternity, how are we to understand what it is to be young, old, lonely, grieving, angry, sick, forgotten, addicted, etc etc? What choices would we make? How would we feel? What would we think? How would we act? Hellooo? The lives we live on earth are planned so that we can answer these questions that cannot be understood in a perfect world without someone ‘going off’ to do the “hard yards”!

  2. Robert says:

We don’t. Unfortunately, most people seem to be fairly arrogant about their own importance and simply can’t accept the idea of personal dissolution clearly represented by death.

Face it: the universe got along quite fine without us for billions of years before we were born, and it will go on just fine after we die. There’s no good reason to believe that we’re even a little bit important to anyone but ourselves.

  3. Jason says:

Because death is too traumatic of a concept to face without experiencing deep despair or rationalizing it away with ad hoc hypotheses.

  4. Jeff says:

Not everyone believes in an afterlife as it happens. Some of us prefer to stand up and face the universe square on, rather than persist in delusional thinking.

  5. Terry says:

Afterlife is just another man made concept to lure people into faith based religious cults. For people who don’t have the ability to think for themselves it works.

I think, therefore I am atheist.

  6. Richard says:

    “We” don’t. Speak for yourself.

  7. Federico Pizarro says:

to calm down whiny people at funerals
