It is a path on which one seeks a destination/experience that cannot be fully explained by physical phenomena. If we had experienced, it would have shown us something where nothing moves, not even an atom or anything in it, or everything is in eternal motion. No, it is not death they way we understand it.
A personal experience of this nature actually lights up the brain, which is perhaps called enlightenment. This happens when all conditions and variables — outer and inner — are right!
A word used to group a set of experiences that have traditionally been linked to the mystical or transcendental.
I could be cynical and say it is a word people use because they haven’t thought much about religion and don’t want to try to define what they believe.
I think most people have a sense that they are more than just their bodies and their brains. It could be said, and still be scientifically accurate, that we are connected to everything. Our matter is recycled and our actions are affected by and have an effect on the rest of the universe. There are so many variables, so we may never be able to explain or predict most of those actions, but we have some sense of that connection.
Some people experience this as leaving their body, some as memories of past lives, or just thinking of a friend and they happen to call you. We get into trouble when try to make too much of these experiences.
Spirituality is a perception of a belief system which is different for everybody. I suspect this is a term often used to describe a belief without linking it to a religion.
“Spirituality” is a nonsense word that people who want to avoid rigorous thinking use. There is no such thing as a “spirit”–another vague, malleable, undefined word.
The knowing that we are eternal.
Spirituality is self-induced emotional response meeting skin response.
What is spirituality? Connected to the Supreme Soul, God.
What is spirituality? Connection to the Supreme Soul, God.
In general I think it’s a human attempt to define what is ultimately beyond definition. To me, spirituality is whatever you do or think in reaction to the knowledge that you’re going to die. For others it’s apparently intimately linked to what they believe to be the nature of what we are.
The search for truth.
Even atheism is a spiritual belief system.
In theory a person who is spiritual is in touch with their spirit or soul, thus metaphysical aspects of reality. Unfortunately by that definition I doubt anyone is spiritual, because I see no reason to believe in anything supernatural, including the soul. In reality I’d say spirituality is a buzzword that people use in place of “religious” because it carries less dogmatic association.
“Spirituality” is a word for feelings we cannot explain in words.
It has mystical implications, but is really nothing more than a sense of wonder, delight, love which we all (even atheists!) experience as part of being alive and human.
I have no idea what people mean when they say they are spiritual. All I know when they say this, is that they don’t seem to be subscribing to a particular orthodox creed, else they’d mention it directly.
Spirituality is a concept used to delude rational thinking. The concept of a “spiritual” existence has only served to undermine our physical existence, pulling our thoughts away from the here and now to some mystical existence of which we have no proof.
The term “spiritual” is so overused by our society today. It is a concept that has evolved recently to encompass a whole set of different beliefs. The “spiritual” evolution we see today is the death of organized religion. People have become more informed about science these days, so its only natural that religion would evolve. Ultimately, spirituality will die as well. Hopefully, we’ll survive to see a better day when all of humanity will use critical thinking to solve problems, rather than relying on some mystical idea like spirituality.
Spirituality is something that resonates with a person fundamentally according to their values. A kind of grandeur that comes from our consciousness not a spirit in the way of a soul.
“Spirituality” has nothing to do with some supernatural “spirit”. I define it as the sense of wonder that I personally feel when looking into the depths of interstellar space or through a microscope at the teeming world of the very small. It is the wonder I experience in knowing that we can know the world in very intimate terms, that we are the universe looking back at itself.
Spirituality is connecting with all there is…the Source of all life, inspiration, and Creator of the universe.
